Nothing New, Men and Makeup

There is nothing new under the sun. The history of male cosmetics is a long one, going as far back as the Pharaohs.

In the days of the Pharaohs, men wore kohl rimmed eyes, this is believed to be the beginning of men wearing makeup.

Alexander the Great wore makeup.

In Asia, China and Japan, men and women used gum arabic, gelatin, and eggs to stain their fingernails to signify their status in society.

Makeup for men is certainly nothing new. In today’s world, makeup for men has become socially accepted.  While doing research for this post,I ran across so many pictures of men in makeup. Some have mastered the art of  applying makeup so well, they look as beautiful as any madeup woman.

If you have not mastered the art of applying makeup, don’t worry, their are plenty of tutorials to help you.

Some of you may question why do men wear makeup? The answer is simple, they want to look better or different by enhancing their looks, the same as women.

We have young men today who apply makeup in secret because they are afraid they are going to be judged, laughed at or placed in a category. Then we have the ones who boldly wear makeup and they are comfortable doing so.

Major stores have consultants that can answer questions pertaining to your skin type and colors that will suit you and enhance your looks.

There are many different reasons why men wear makeup, I will list some below

  • To hide blemishes
  • To enhance their looks
  • Desire to be pretty
  • To be different

Hiding blemishes is one of the most common reasons men and women wear makeup. If you suffer with a skin disorder such as ache, spotty skin discoloration, birthmarks, etc., if makeup help you feel better about your appearance, then learn how to apply it and by all means, use it.

Most people are concerned about how they look. Men are discovering that a little bit of this and a little dab of that can hide a bad spot and also make a good spot look better, thus making your appearance the best it can be.

There are men who love the pretty look they can create using makeup. In the videos I watched of men applying makeup, they are experts at it, some had been experimenting since they were kids.

There are people who just want to be different. They create their own style, dressing, communicating their signature look and so on.They have the need to be non traditional. Some want to capture attention, some want to look a certain way for entertaining, rock stars for example, and some just enjoy enjoy wearing makeup.

As long as men have been wearing makeup, (some so expertly applied, we are not even aware that they are wearing it.) there are people who are shocked and immediately label them as being weird.

I know that some of us are shocked when we see a man all made up with the colors, outlining, shadows, false eyelashes and lipstick etc, but we do live in an age where people are boldly expressing themselves.

It’s Your Thing, do what you want to do!

What is your take on this?

Fashion’s Digital Reach!

I was so surprised when I went to the mall yesterday, even though I knew Macy’s was closing, it was still a surprise to see all the close out signs. Even though I shop online for my big men fashion apparel, this is a store that I shop at  for myself and I will miss it.

Zachery Eanes Jan 4, 2017,  wrote in an article, DURHAM — Department store Macy’s Inc. announced Wednesday it is closing 68 of its stores, including its Durham store at Northgate Mall.
Cincinnati-based Macy’s has two locations in Durham, one at Northgate Mall and the other at The Streets at Southpoint. The Northgate location is 187,000 square feet and opened in   1994.

At the Moncler Gamme Bleu show held in Milan, Nick Wooster , says, ” Retail may be  on fire,”  , the Instagram personality and industry lifer, claimed, Yet Mr. Wooster is aware that department stores are failing, with malls ousting them as anchor tenants; that Macy’s has announced it would lay off 10,000 workers.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                  According to Terry J. Lundgren, the outgoing chairman and chief executive officer of Macy’s says the closings is part of a plan that will expand their digital reach.
See a trend taking place here? More and more people are shopping online. People who was once afraid of giving personal information, such as addresses, credit card numbers, etc, this group is becoming familiar with the internet, beginning to trust certain sites, therefore they have begin taking advantage of the many deals they find on the WWW.
This is a good thing. Our everyday lives are going at a faster pace and most of us do not have much leisure time to shop around for the things we want or need, it makes sense to go online for these things, where we save time and  money.                                                                                                                                                                A lot of people of my generation was afraid of the computer, now a lot of them are on social media, navigating the internet, e-mailing and learning all kinds of things about the computer, and they are shopping.                                                                                                                                                                When my job bought in the computer, we were so afraid of it, now I am so happy I learned the little about it that I now know. It saves you tons of time. Also it is so nice to be able to look and fond all kinds of money saving deals in the comfort of your own home.                                                                                                                                                                I will miss my favorite dept stores, but where I was only able to visit them every once in a while, I am truly happy that I can easily visit them online.                                                                                                                                                                                                                          How many of you swore you would never shop online and are now shopping online with no hesitation?

Another Brand For Big And Tall Men

This is part of an article taken from FASHION, by Marcy Cruz

Brandon Kyle (+Menswear) Launches Contemporary Plus Size Men’s Clothing Brand

plus size men

We love seeing the emergence of more fashion lines and brands dedicated to the stylish plus size/big & tall/brawn man. In the midst of the evolution of plus size fashion over the last two decades, it seems men have gotten lost in the shuffle and are now getting the fashion they yearn for and deserve.

Brandon Kyle (+Menswear) is answering that call and throwing its hat into the fashion arena as the first contemporary lifestyle-clothing brand made for the modern, fashion-forward Big and Tall Man.

The brand’s website launched today and they will also be celebrating that launch with its first fashion show in NYC tonight during NY Fashion Week, which will feature male models of varying sizes and shapes on the runway.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                           Brandon Kyle Coates is a former creative director for Women’s plus size brand Monif C.,         he is well aquainted in the plus size fashion industry.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                             Coates said in an official state ,“Having been a plus-size man for most of my adult life, I understand the struggles that larger men face when looking for flattering clothes that are fashion-forward. Starting a plus-size menswear line is the natural next step in my life-long journey to help make plus-size fashion equal for everyone.”

I think starting a plus size menswear line is such a great thing and I hope to see more. Tremendous  progress is being made for plus size women also, they are strutting down the runway like bosses.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        This goes to show, you do not have to sacrifice style because of your size. I love to see well dressed big men and women, just know what looks good on you. Concentrate on what feels good on you and what makes you feel good.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                Most of us are a little vain in how we look, regardless of our size, clothes, when chosen right, boosts our confidence, making us into more sociable beings. Go ahead and strutt your stuff and look good doing it!                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                  If you like this or (not), please leave a comment @ https://bigmenfashionfootwear.com, either will help me improve.

Size Discrimination or Gender Discrimination?

Just read an article by Kristine Solomon, Style and Beauty writer, about a study done on plus size women being forced to wear men’s workout clothes. This hit pretty close to home. I’ve written about the big men in my life and some of the struggles I’ve had finding good looking clothes that would fit them and I may have mentioned my daughter who  had similar problems, finding clothes that  fit.

                                                                                                                                                                                                                         work-out-1539614__180

Even though finding clothes for different body sizes has improved over the past years,                                                                                                                                                                          my daughter still go to the men section to look for workout pants because she is tall and the                                                                                                                                                              pants found in the regular women section are too short.

In other words, according to Kristine Solomon, a plus-size woman who wants to look good and feel good about her workout can’t pull on some cute activewear and head to the gym like a thinner woman could — even though the average American woman is close to a size 18, according to other research by the study’s co-author, Assistant Professor Deborah Christel of WSU.

Instead, the study shows that plus-size women have no choice but to shop the men’s department for workout gear. “There’s a societal expectation that I think is communicated in clothing availability,” said Christel to NBC. “Companies are saying it’s OK for a guy to be big because we are offering guy clothing, but it’s not OK for a woman to be big because we are cutting it off at a certain size.”

Big sized women want to look cute in their workout fashion, high end designers need to                                                                                                                                                                  be aware of this.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                    woman-1510254_1920                                                                                                                                                                                            Imagine  an overweight teenager realizes that working out is good for the mind, body and soul and decides to join a good exercise program but cannot find pretty clothes to work out in, this sounds petty to some but can be very discouraging to a teenager.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                Swim suits are designed to be flattering to the plus size body, why can’t the                                                                                                                                                   fashion designers do the same with workout apparel?                                                                                                                                                                                                                              How about this article from AllHipHop News, which is all good, my point is you see more positive things about big men than you see of big women. I must say, It’s much better now than when I was growing up and clothes was a very important part of my life, I’m just saying that I hear a more positive, accepting vibe when big men are the topic as apposed to women being the topic. This is only my opinion.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                       AllHipHop News) Maybach Music Group rapper Fat Trel will flex his modeling skills during New York Fashion Week this September.

Fat Trel is among the models who will hit the runway to promote Troy Adkins’ Volare collection for the Big & Tal men’s category.

On Wednesday, September 14, Adkins will debut his latest collection at an exclusive, private location in New York.

In addition to Fat Trel, Jamal “Gravy” Woolard and Comedian/actor, Faizon Love will walk down the runway representing big and tall men.
Volare bills itself as an upscale streetwear brand “for the Big & Tall fashion enthusiast.”

Yes, I am aware of the fashion shows for the big woman, and I appreciate the awareness they bring, it just seems more accepting and popular for the big man.                                        I think big women as well as big men look great in clothes designed for their body size and type. When advertising for men or women apparel. I think all sizes should be included.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                            Have you encountered this problem or one similar? please leave a comment.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                 https://bigmenfashionfootwear.com

Some Weird Trends In Fashion

Have you ever wondered how some forms of fashion attracts and catches on to certain groups of people? Or maybe out of astonishment, you  wonder “where the heck did that style of fashion come from? I have.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                     punctuation-marks-1019729_640                                                                                                                              Growing up in the fifties and early sixties, we had to put together outfits, meaning we had to take the few clothes we had, mix and match or borrow.  My mother would make us gourd skirts, taking three pieces of material cut in a sort of triangle, left wide at the waist, sew them together and there was your skirt.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                          My mother, my aunts all sewed. They knew how to sew well. My aunt would take a pair of jeans,  (worn out) and make a skirt from them, In those days we were not allowed to wear pants to school.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                           I know to some, our clothes looked weird, but we wore those clothes because we had no other choice.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                             Our fashion sense is formed by many things, the media, our peers, our environment, the list goes on. Many people want to stand out and be noticed, one of the ways they accomplish this is by the way they dress.         Many want to create their own unique fashion style, while others concentrate on what will remain stylish regardless of what’s popular or in vogue.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                             Today, I believe, trends are made to make a statement, to be defiant, to offend, to draw attention and the list could go on and on.  How in the world does a person think wearing you pants hanging off your behind can be attractive and stylish?  How does a young lady think she look attractive wearing a dress three sizes too small? I believe it’s all about sending out the message of I don’t care.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                           Fashion has taken a turn that is not becoming to some, not attractive, and very offensive. I am aware that most of the outrageous trends are among young people, my peers and I had certain fashion trends, but it’s another ballgame when you need to present yourself for things, such as a job. Bottom line, if you are not dressed in what we call ‘a decent’ way, you will not be considered for a job.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                 I know that some young people use fashion to convey a statement, we all did, for different reasons, just know the ones to shy away from. Would you want to sit in a restaurant seat that someone wearing his pants below his butt, had just vacated?
